On June 20, the film Cinema and Sanctuary had its premiere at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center. The film, by CCNY Professor Dave Davidson, charts the tumultuous and exuberant history of The Institute of Film Techniques at the City College of New York – the first documentary film school in America that was under the leadership of DADAist and pioneering experimental filmmaker Hans Richter.
The audio post-production team was lead by staff members Paul Kozel and Chris Woll, who also mixed the film. SAC fourth year students were the sound designers and composers for the project. Dialog editing was done by Paul Kozel and Santiago Celi provided the dialog restoration. Congratulations to the team for delivering a throughly professional sound track!

NBA (National Basketball Association) superstar Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors recently introduced a new shoe from Under Armour called the Curry 6. The commercial for the Curry 6 features Stephen and “I Ain’t Done” by SAC graduate Andy Mineo. Congrats Andy!
Patrick Noth’s work as a composer, performer, and writer have been featured extensively on Bleacher Report’s on-line series Gridiron Heights. Bleacher Report is one of the most popular websites that focuses on sport and sports culture. Patrick’s talents as a composer, rapper, actor, voice over talent, and writer have also been featured on Comedy Central, MTV, IFC, NBC, Nickelodeon, TV Land, and several broadcast specials by the comedian Jim Gaffigan.
SAC instructor Paul Special brought his fourth year students to the Mastering Suite at Engine Room Audio to work with senior engineer Andy Vandette. Andy provided a detailed overview of the mastering software and hardware in the studio as well as his approach to mastering. After Andy’s presentation, he walked through the mastering process using fourth year student Kevin Halvordson’s Capstone project entitled Strange Days for the mastering example. Congratulations to Kevin for walking away from the session with a professionally mastered song!
Since graduating from the Sonic Arts Center in 2017, Katerina Aurigema has been an in demand location sound mixer working in the fields of television, web series, commercials, corporate videos, short and feature films, and documentary films. Her clients include Buzzfeed, A&E, Remy Cointreau, Arm & Hammer, Weight Watchers, Citibank, Marriott, and National Geographic (Genius Tech & Art). In addition, she has recorded interviews with The Daily Show co-creator and head writer Lizz Winstead and the directors of the acclaimed documentary RGB, Betsy West and Julie Cohen. Katerina currently works as a third sound mixer on the VH1 reality show Black Ink Crew. Her extensive list of credits can be found here.
Fourth year student Will Fisher was awarded the annual Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship at a reception on October 9 hosted by the BMI Foundation. The Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship was endowed in 2007 by BMI Foundation Board Member, retired BMI Assistant Vice President and Counsel, and CCNY alumna Evelyn Buckstein. The program annually awards $6,000 to a gifted CCNY music student who aspires to a career in professional songwriting, composition, performance and/or music education. Will is a talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, composer, and DJ. Congratulations Will!
Third year student Henry Bellingham had an internship with Red Hook Post during the 2017-2018 year and was hired in June as a sound editor for the show Z-Nation on the SyFy Network. Henry’s work on the show includes editing Foley, ADR, and FX (sound effects). SAC Alumni Jaime Marcelo and Ben Kruse Calla are also part of the sound editing team at Red Hook Post! The Ukrainian pop duo Nikita’s song “Timid”, written by fourth year student Dmitry Mironenko, has recently passed one million views on YouTube. The song was released by Mama-Music, one of the most important independent labels in the Ukraine. The track was produced by MONATIK, the number one artist in the Ukraine and a coach on the popular Ukrainian TV show The Voice Kids. Congrats Dmitry!
Recent graduate Ken Candelas was one of the audio engineers for the 2017 edition of the Newport Folk Festival. As a member of the Aura Sonic Ltd team, Ken worked the Harbor stage during the event that was simulcast and recorded for National Public Radio and its affiliates. Ken worked with numerous artists during the festival including Billy Brag, Joe Henry, Regina Spektor, and Suzanne Vega. Since graduation Ken has been a very busy engineer working with AVS Production Group, Good Morning America, and Event Systems with a diverse set of acts including Lady Gaga, Wyclef Jean, will.i.am, Kaleo, James Arthur, Sarah Silverman, Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo, and Carlos Santana. In addition to his work as an engineer, Ken is also the drum technician for Saturday Night Live’s Shawn Pelton and has been touring with his band “The Cringe”. Second year student Christian Rossi (aka RAH-C) recently recorded a national commercial break for the new MTV show Signedstarring the legendary rapper Rick Ross. The commercial break features RAH-C rapping a verse in front of Rick Ross! Congratulations Christian!
