Fourth year student Will Fisher was awarded the annual Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship at a reception on October 9 hosted by the BMI Foundation. The Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship was endowed in 2007 by BMI Foundation Board Member, retired BMI Assistant Vice President and Counsel, and CCNY alumna Evelyn Buckstein. The program annually awards $6,000 to a gifted CCNY music student who aspires to a career in professional songwriting, composition, performance and/or music education. Will is a talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, composer, and DJ. Congratulations Will!
Third year student Henry Bellingham had an internship with Red Hook Post during the 2017-2018 year and was hired in June as a sound editor for the show Z-Nation on the SyFy Network. Henry’s work on the show includes editing Foley, ADR, and FX (sound effects). SAC Alumni Jaime Marcelo and Ben Kruse Calla are also part of the sound editing team at Red Hook Post! The Ukrainian pop duo Nikita’s song “Timid”, written by fourth year student Dmitry Mironenko, has recently passed one million views on YouTube. The song was released by Mama-Music, one of the most important independent labels in the Ukraine. The track was produced by MONATIK, the number one artist in the Ukraine and a coach on the popular Ukrainian TV show The Voice Kids. Congrats Dmitry!
Recent graduate Ken Candelas was one of the audio engineers for the 2017 edition of the Newport Folk Festival. As a member of the Aura Sonic Ltd team, Ken worked the Harbor stage during the event that was simulcast and recorded for National Public Radio and its affiliates. Ken worked with numerous artists during the festival including Billy Brag, Joe Henry, Regina Spektor, and Suzanne Vega. Since graduation Ken has been a very busy engineer working with AVS Production Group, Good Morning America, and Event Systems with a diverse set of acts including Lady Gaga, Wyclef Jean, will.i.am, Kaleo, James Arthur, Sarah Silverman, Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo, and Carlos Santana. In addition to his work as an engineer, Ken is also the drum technician for Saturday Night Live’s Shawn Pelton and has been touring with his band “The Cringe”. Christian Rossi, AKA Rah-C, was selected to perform at the 2017 edition of the SXSW Music Festival in Austin Texas. The SXSW Music Festival is one of the largest and most influential global music industry events of the year, taking place every March in Austin, Texas. The festival features established and up and coming artists. Ray-C performed at the festival and was invited to freestyle live on the radio show Sway In The Morning on Shade 45, Eminem’s Hip-Hop Channel on Sirius XM Radio. Recently, Christian released his latest project entitled Grown As I’ll Ever Be which is now available on Spotify and Amazon. SAC alumni Andrey Radovski, (2013) is a busy production sound mixer (location sound recording) for narrative and documentary films. Two narrative films that Andrey worked on recently premiered this week at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival; Like Me and Most Beautiful Island. Most Beautiful Island was just awarded the Grand Jury Prize for narrative film! Congratulation to Andrey and the entire cast and crew!
SAC alumni Andy Mineo provided the song Desperados for the official trailer for Ben Affleck’s new movie Live By Night. Ben Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston police captain who becomes and outlaw. The song was produced by Illmind who has worked with Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, Dr. Dre, Ludacris, 50 Cent, and others. Congrats Andy!
