Christian Rossi, AKA Rah-C, was selected to perform at the 2017 edition of the SXSW Music Festival in Austin Texas. The SXSW Music Festival is one of the largest and most influential global music industry events of the year, taking place every March in Austin, Texas. The festival features established and up and coming artists. Ray-C performed at the festival and was invited to freestyle live on the radio show Sway In The Morning on Shade 45, Eminem’s Hip-Hop Channel on Sirius XM Radio. Recently, Christian released his latest project entitled Grown As I’ll Ever Be which is now available on Spotify and Amazon. SAC alumni Andrey Radovski, (2013) is a busy production sound mixer (location sound recording) for narrative and documentary films. Two narrative films that Andrey worked on recently premiered this week at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival; Like Me and Most Beautiful Island. Most Beautiful Island was just awarded the Grand Jury Prize for narrative film! Congratulation to Andrey and the entire cast and crew!
SAC alumni Andy Mineo provided the song Desperados for the official trailer for Ben Affleck’s new movie Live By Night. Ben Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, the son of a Boston police captain who becomes and outlaw. The song was produced by Illmind who has worked with Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, Dr. Dre, Ludacris, 50 Cent, and others. Congrats Andy!
A recent issue of Variety Magazine featured an article on the audio crew for the Netflix show Luke Cage. The article mentions the work of SAC 2006 alum David Tirolo as Pro Tools operator. We’ve recently updated Dave’s profile on our student page to include all of the very latest work in Dave extensive catalog. Congrats Dave on the mention in Variety!
Nate Fleischer (A.K.A. Nate Rylan), a second year student in the program, recently scored a national EAS Sports commercial featuring Larry Fitzgerald, the future hall of fame receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. In addition to this underscore work Nate co-wrote and co-produced the song Closer by the Modern Inventors that premiered on Stereogum and featured drummer and producer Daru Jones. Congrats Nate. You’ve had a busy summer!
The 14th annual Garden State Film Festival took place last weekend and featured five short films that were all scored by fourth year student Taylor Bradshaw. In addition, the feature film Stuff, screened at the festival, licensed a piece of Taylor’s music for the underscore. Taylor will be graduating in June and is already a busy professional composer, arranger, and engineer working primarily on production and post production projects for film and television. On April 24, the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival will feature the world premiere of Almost Paris a film by the director Domenica Cameron-Scorsese, daughter of Martin Scorsese. The score for Almost Paris was composed, recorded, and mixed at the Sonic Arts Center by third year student Jasmin Klinger. Congratulations to Jasmin for this major professional accomplishment.
Last night the Center hosted our first annual Capstone Evening. Fourth year students in our program are now required to create a Capstone Project during the Fall semester. The Capstone Project is a multifaceted assignment that serves as a culminating academic and artistic experience for students near the end of their tenure at the Center. These projects can be in music production or audio post production. During last night’s event students introduced their projects followed by audio or video playback. After playback two distinguished professional guests provided comments. This year’s guests included producer, engineer, and songwriter Curt Frasca (Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Moby, Seal, Avril Lavigne) and engineer, producer Jay Messina (Lou Reed, Judy Collins, Aerosmith, Kiss, Miles Davis). A reception in honor of the Capstone students followed the event. Congratulations to all of our Capstone students!

SAC graduate Andy Mineo’s latest album for Reach Records, Uncomfortable, was released and available for purchase on iTunes on September 18. It reached #2 in the iTunes hip hop/rap chart and #3 on the overall chart! Uncomfortable was executively produced by !llmind who has produced 50 Cent, J. Cole, Kayne West, Dre, and Ludacris. The album features the single “Uncomfortable” and performances by Mali Music, Jon Bellion, and Mac Powell. Andy’s Uncomfortable Tour began on October 1 and runs through mid November.
In late May, A$AP Rocky released his second studio album entitled At Long Last A$AP. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Sonic Arts Center 2011 graduate, Frans Mernick, worked on the album as a producer and writer. His production and co-production credits include the songs “Canal St.”, “Dreams”, “Better Things”, “Everyday”(featuring Rod Stewart, Miguel, and Mark Ronson), “Back Home”, “Pharsyde”, and “Westside Highway” (produced by Danger Mouse). Frans earned writing credits on “Canal St.” and “Dreams”. During the recording of the album Frans also worked with Kayne West, Mos Def, and Ariel Pink. In addition to Frans, two other Sonic Arts Center graduates worked on the album as well. Lynas (2007) and Alex Dadras (2013) received writing credit for “Dreams” and Lynas also received a co-production credit on “Pharsyde”. Congratulations to Frans as well as Lynas and Dadras.
